A couple weeks ago I attended a seminar called Innovation Games for Agile Teams.
In this class, we skipped the dreadful dull powerpoint… Instead, all day we played games. Games with names like Prune the Product Tree, Remember the Future, and Speed Boat.
Speed Boat is my favorite. It's also one of the easiest to play. And it's a seriously fun way to improve your products or teams. I used Speed Boat to help an Agile team improve its performance. The team starts by drawing a boat, a really fast boat, and attaching anchors — things that make your boat go slower. After the team attaches the anchors, the Scrum Master will work to remove the impediments and help the team go faster in the next sprint.
How did the team like the game? The game helped them relax and come up with original ideas. They described the experience as, "A fun and creative way to brain storm ideas."
